I loved this book. Having attended a reading by Beth prior to starting the book, it was easy to read with the author's narrative voice in my mind. This is the story of Harper Canaday, a 17-year-old high school student living in a one-horse town with only one thought - how to get out. When a chance encounter leads to an unexpected pregnancy, Harper feels more trapped than ever. If she keeps the baby, how will she ever be able to make the changes to her life she needs to move on? The writing flows very well; I found it easy to read chapter after chapter without needing or wanting to stop. Harper's situation and the town of Milan, Ohio, are familiar whether we've been there or not. Beth Oness has created in Harper a fully-realized character, one who I felt for, sympathized with, and rooted for as I read along, even as I wondered how she would ever find her way out of the situation she found herself in.
